Mukutan Retreat is an exclusive retreat located in the Western extremity of Laikipia Plateau of Kenya. Mukutan comes from the Kiswahili word Makutano, meaning, a “meeting place”. Mukutan Retreat is located in the 100,000 Acres Ol Ari Nyiro Ranch (Laikipia Nature Conservancy), at the confluence of fingers of the surrounding hills. Not only is it the meeting place of the fingers of the surrounding hills but also of civilization and nature. At Mukutan Retreat, you experience the African wilderness in the comforts of modern day civilization.
At Mukutan Retreat, visitors enjoy total silence and exclusivity disturbed only by the evocative sounds of African jungles. The atmosphere is both invigorates and rejuvenates oneself. Relaxation and adventure are supplemented by reflection, giving one the rare opportunity to rejuvenate, body, soul and mind. At Mukutan Retreat, you have the choice of either hard and soft adventure activities or just relaxation. Adventure activities in Mukutan include
- Game viewing on camel and horseback
- Hiking the hills and valleys in company of experienced guides.
- Fishing for bass and crayfish.

- Visits to cultural Samburu, Turkana or Pokot homesteads.
On the other hand one can opt to take it easy and relax. An important pastime at the retreat is swimming in the mineral pools. On the other hand one can relax at the main lodge while reading or enjoy a cool drink at your verandah as the day wears, go for a massage at the health club.
Accommodation at Muktan comprises of three traditional huts made of the local material, perched at the edge of the gorge. Each of the huts is luxuriously furnished in Lamu and Swahili furniture. Each hut has a double bed, spacious bathroom, fire place and private verandah overlooking the cliffs. The central lounge and the dinning are furnished with rare antiques.
To enhance the quietness, no generators are provided at Mukutan Retreat. Power is provided by solar panels and most of lighting by candles.
At Mukutan organic food with an exotic touch is served, featuring Indian, Chinese and Italian cuisine.
